Thank you for ordering one of these amazing dots. While you are waiting for your orders, here is how they are made in our workshop.
We start making the wall dots by cutting the perfect circle on the special fibre first. The reason we cut before print is that once the ink is there, the fibre would be wet and it is be a lot harder to cut it perfect round.
We print the photo using the dye-sublimation process. Which is a special way to print photos under very high temperature. Compared to Inkjet printer, a dye-sublimation printer produces true continuous tones appearing much like a chemical photograph.
Once the print dries up, the ink is firmly printed onto the fine fibre threads. This is the very reason why you could wipe your dots with a wet cloth and the colour will not come off.
The print comes out as a square so here Tim is carefully peeling off the borders which leaves us with the “dot”. This is what your wall dot look like. A perfect circle on a square backing paper.
PS. The boy’s name is Jordan, Tim’s oldest son. He is almost as tall as his father now.
P.P.S. Noticed the fold line? You’ve got a pair of good eyes. No, they shouldn’t be there on your prints.
